Is your house overrun with movies like mine was? A year or so ago, I showed you how I organized our movies and saved SOOO much space in my cabinets. Unfortunately, I bought cheap when I did that project and I needed to organize again. Now, it wasn’t a full re-organize so much as a finish what I started and spend the money for the good stuff (which I should have done in the first place).
Last March when I showed you my organizing tips on how to organize movies, I showed you how I moved all our movies into binders and these great sleeves. I LOVE how I organized the movies. Even more than that, I love how much space I saved in my cabinets by moving the movies to binders. I love open space. I dislike it when things are totally full and overly cluttered. I’m really happy with my project. I know you are going to love the space and organization of this project in your home AND I’ve made it even easier for you with my Movie Binder Organization system. Yay!
I bought the cheapest folders for this project. I was on a budget and I’ve never had a problem with the Target brand of binders. I also love Target and I really think these binders are fine for normal/light use, but anyone who has kids knows that they put things through additional tests that products were never designed for. Am I right?
As you can see above, the folders were falling apart. I should have known better and bought the heavy-duty, to begin with, but I was staying on budget, so I bought the cheap ones.
They also wouldn’t stay closed all the way. Anytime you flipped pages to find a movie, all the sleeves came out. To say it was a pain is an understatement.
The last issue was the fact that I never finished the project. Now I’m sure that never happens to you ;-), but it happens to me all the time. I start something and think the rest will be quick and I’ll come back to it later. Well, later turned out to be almost a year. Yep…they don’t call me speedy for nothing. Oh wait, they don’t call me speedy. I’m pretty sure they call me, the one who leaves projects unfinished for years on end. lol!
Anyway, I never came back and made real dividers for the folders. I just left the sheets of paper as dividers. Yep, that didn’t work very well with kids, now did it?
Last month I decided to finally get this project finished. Yay!
I started by purchasing the heavy-duty folders(affiliate link). They don’t say the are child proof, but they are definitely more heavy and sturdy than the original binders I bought.
I designed a cover for my folder as well as dividers for the inside, printed them on cardstock and was ready to finish the project. The bonus for you is that I have my dividers and binder covers availabe for you, too!
I’ve got the movies binder covers and dividers for you, too.
The Family Movies binder has the cover and the following dividers: Kids TV Shows, Family G Movies, Family PG Movies, and Christmas Movies.
I put the dividers in sheet protectors(affiliate link). I know they will end up getting bent up over time, but putting them into the sheet protectors allows them to last a little longer. It also makes the dividers stick out a little further so they are easier to find because the movie sleeves(affiliate link) stick out further than a traditional sheet of paper.
It looks so pretty! I love the fact that I finally finished this project! I also love how organized and easy it is to find the movie for which we are looking. I know I already said it, but the space that I saved, I cleared an entire shelf in my living room, now that is probably what I love the most!
This is a super simple project that you can easily complete at your home and enjoy the extra space and organization! To make it even easier, grab your movie binder printables and refer to my original post for more organizing tips on this project. Depending on how many movies you have, this project may take an hour up to an afternoon. In the end, I know you will love the organization as well as the space savings!
Great idea- mine are in binders that has a zip close cover, but they are not really organised in any way so I have to flick through the book to find what I want.
Thanks! Yes, the organizing really helped. It makes it easier to find what we are looking for and allow this kids to know what they can and can’t watch.
