With back to school season upon us, I wanted to have some fun with my girls and to make some cute back to school items for our dolls. Today, I’m sharing the fun American Girl Doll crafts with you. There are two different crafts you can make with your daughter(s) for her doll(s). Fun!
We decided to make adorable chalkboards for our dolls as well as some cute ‘textbooks.’ I’ve turned this into one of my craft kits, so you can purchase everything you need to make this with your daughter. I wanted to add some extra fun, so there are also printables for some notebook paper and ID’s for the dolls and our girls. Let me show you the cuteness!

We started our craft fun by painting the chalkboards. It is a bright neon pink paint. That way the other dolls will pay attention to what their teacher is writing on the board. 😉 After allowing the paint to dry, my girls got to cut out cute little designs that are included in the craft kit to add some fun and personality to their chalkboard.
For some reason, both of my girls loved working with the Mod Podge. Mod Podge is fun, so I can see why they enjoyed it. 🙂
When your daughter is done with her chalkboard, you can use a hot glue gun to add a piece of twine to the back of the board. I think it will make it easier to hang it up and play with it. Only one of my daughters agrees with that. I added twine to one chalkboard and not the other, so it is totally optional.
MaryEllen was excited to start teaching and using her new chalkboard.
Before she could get started teaching, she needed some textbooks. I just think this is the cutest idea. I modified the idea from this pin that I pinned to my American Girl Dolls board on Pinterest. While I love that idea and think it is adorable, it is a bit longer than myself or my girls want to spend to make a doll textbook.
Instead, my assistant made these adorable book covers, backs, and spines. I have all the step-by-step directions as well as the textbook templates in this craft kit, but they are super easy to put together and the end result is so stinkin’ cute!
Just some post-it notes, my templates and some glue….
…and you have adorable textbooks for the dolls. My girls were a little bothered that when you try to open the textbooks you either have to be really careful or know that they are post-it notes and the ‘book pages’ split apart, kind of like breaking the spine on a real book. The little textbooks still stay together, but it bothered them, so I thought I would mention it to you as well.

The other adorable thing that is in the kit for the dolls (and a girl’s sized one as well) is the ID cards.
I used my hot glue gun and glued mine for MaryEllen onto some twine. She looks so official!
Might as well make it official by writing her welcome message to her student on her new chalkboard. She laid out her textbooks, notebook paper, and id cards on the table that Pumpkin and I made a while back.
Now she is ready. Isn’t it so cute?!
I don’t see any first-day jitters. Time to get the year started.
Notebook paper is a must, so MaryEllen passed that out to each of her students along with the textbooks and ID cards.
Could the little paper be any cuter?
The dolls are ready for school now!
You can have some crafty fun with your daughter and make the chalkboard and textbooks for your dolls by ordering the craft kit. It also comes with the notebook paper and ID badges.
If you don’t want to make the full kit and just want to make the textbooks, you can purchase the templates to make those here.
Fun! I’d love to see any pictures of what you make. That would be so fun. You can email them to me or add them to Instagram and tag me @realcoake and use #RealCraftFun. My girls and I look forward to seeing the cuteness you guys come up with!
lovely back to school scene! The blackboard is perfect for the classroom and looks perfect with the desk and chair.
Oh I miss crafting for dolls!

Thank you! I have done so little doll crafting, so this was lots of fun. 🙂
Such a cute idea! I love the chalkboard!
Thanks so much!
I really like your posts but I don’t have all the supplies but that’s not your fault! Sometimes I have to improvise no biggie! And finally you inspire me so much thank you!
Thank you so much! That’s so sweet of you to say! Have fun improvising! My daughter does that a lot and often things turn out even better. ?
