I am excited to announce my first giveaway. I am equally excited about the product that I get to give away.
After 5 years of homeschooling, I finally decided that this year I needed to add a ‘real’ PE program. We have always done a variety of classes, park days, and such but just like many homeschoolers, we didn’t have any program we were using. I know that I am not that unusual in my thinking that we just didn’t have time to fit anything else in and that what we were doing was enough. However, for me, I decided that this year I needed to figure it out.
About 2.5 years ago, I made a decision to lose weight and to get myself more healthy. Part of that included exercising more. As I lost weight and got fit, I felt great! I have had quite the journey through losing weight, injury, keeping it off, etc. One of the realizations that I had during this process was that I needed to teach my kids the healthy habits of taking care of themselves and one of those habits needed to included exercise. My parents did this for my brother and I growing up. While we both felt it was much more of forced torture, I see as an adult that it did actually instill some good habits in us (not that I used them for about 20+ years).
What I was looking for was something that would be fun that the kids and I could do together, wouldn’t take too long, and would teach my girls some good habits regarding exercise to take with them into adulthood. I wanted to do it different than my parents did, but I think my parents then and I now both want the same end result.
I looked and didn’t see much. Then last summer, I saw Family Time Fitness for sale on the homeschool buyers co-op. I checked them out and thought it seemed to fit what I was looking for. It was also a good deal, so I took the plunge. Now, when I say I took the plunge, I mean that I thought to myself “KC you are crazy, you already have enough, your homeschool days are already full enough, what are you thinking, etc.” But within all of that I kept having these thoughts that this would be really good for our family.
We have been using the curriculum now for about 6 months and we are really enjoying it. Here are some things we really like:
- It is fun!
- It is for the whole family. (When Mr. T is home he even joins us…which says something ;-))
- It is easy to figure out what you are supposed to do and if you are not quite sure, there are youtube videos that will show you what to do.
- It is an actual workout…we often get our sweat on.
- The kids really like it.
- I notice that even though it officially should add more time to our day, our day doesn’t actually take any longer than it used to before we added about 30 minutes of PE.
- (There are apparently studies that show this effect – that attentiveness and cooperation are increased with physical activity.)
- The kids ask to do Family Time Fitness and are actually disappointed on the days we don’t do it.
- It is non-consumable, I have purchased it and will be able to use it over and over for years to come!
- (Even their workbooks, which I have not tried, come via pdf format so you can print as many copies as you like.)
- It uses simple supplies that you may have or are not that expensive to buy. I was able to buy most of the things I needed at $5 Below.
- The kids even make up and complete their own PE lessons during their play time!
- My girls now talk about how strong they are and the muscles they have! I love hearing my girls feel strong…nothing better than that!
They recommend that you use the curriculum 5 days a week. That just won’t work for our schedule. So, we are working at it 3 days a week. It is working out great for us!
