Oh my goodness! I have some organizational and crafty goodness for you today. My favorite kind of goodness….organization mixed with a fun craft. There really might not be much better in my world. Today our crafty organization fun is for your linen closet organization and I have a printable to help you as well. Yay!
I organized my linen closet a few years ago now. It has served us well, but I always intended to go back and paint and make it look cute or at least not this tan blah that is our current linen closet. I think that it makes a big difference to have things pretty AND organized. It also just makes me happy to have pretty things in my home, so I add them when I can.
I’ve recently been changing the flooring in our upstairs landing and my girls’ bathroom. That area includes my linen closet and it has renewed my desire to pretty up my linen closet and maybe get some fun new baskets, etc. for the space.
My first project in cute-ifying the space is to add one additional bit of organization that has been missing…which of course turned into a fun craft. 🙂
My kids and my husband all grab items from this linen closet. I generally have a spare for each product we use in the linen closet. So, when we run out we have what we need. However, the person who grabs the last one needs to let me know so I can add it to the grocery list. That wasn’t happening. Let me tell you it is no fun going to get a bar of soap and finding that we have none!
I knew I wanted to create a way for everyone to leave me a note of what we need so that we don’t have to worry about running out if they forget 5 seconds later or I’m not home for them to tell about taking the last product.
Linen Closet Organization
Supplies:
- Clipboard
- Krazy Glue – Brush
- Krazy Glue – Precision Tip
- Glitter
- Ribbon
- Dry erase pen
- Printable (at bottom of post)
- Laminate
- Removable adhesive hook
- Removable adhesive squares
Step 1: Add Glitter
When I was shopping for the supplies for this project at Target, I noticed the Krazy Glue with the brush. I’d never noticed it before and I thought it would be perfect for use in this project. I wanted to use Krazy Glue because I really wanted the glitter to stick well and not end up all over the floor of my upstairs landing. Knowing how well it glues things, I thought the Krazy Glue would work really well.
First, tape off the sections of your clipboard.
Next, drip the Krazy Glue onto the section to which you will add glitter. Only do one section at a time.
Use the brush to quickly spread the Krazy glue over the space.
Sprinkle with a generous amount of glitter.
Gently press the glitter down onto the clipboard.
Remove the tape from that section. Because Krazy Glue is an instant glue, you will want to work quickly and remove tape immediately.
Continue in this way for all the sections to which you wish to add glitter.
Step 2: Add a Dry Erase Pen
I knew if I just tied my dry erase pen onto the clipboard it would slip out of the ribbon and end up on the floor.
Krazy Glue to the rescue! Using the precision tip Krazy glue, add a thin line of glue onto the pen where you want the ribbon.
Tie the ribbon in a cute knot and clip the end of the ribbon.
I found pens, on my shopping trip at Target, that had an eraser on the end so that I wouldn’t have to wonder how to erase my list once it was added to my grocery list.
When this pen runs out, you will need to change out your ribbon because you glued it to the pen.
Tie the pen to the clipboard.
Step 3: Print and Laminate
This is where we really get to the solution for our issue of products being taken and not added to the grocery list.
I made a “Need to get” printable. As you will see it goes in the linen closet. That way in the moment, my daughters or husband can write exactly what they took that needs to be added to the grocery list.
To make yours, just snag your printable (at the bottom of the post).
I suggest that you print it on cardstock for more durability. Laminate your list. You can take it to a copy shop to laminate or if you are an organization junky like me, laminators are not that expensive and come in SO handy!
I have two versions of this printable for you at the bottom of this post. This is a larger version if you prefer that or have more supplies people would be using and need to be added to the grocery list.
You could also use this same idea in your pantry in the kitchen and this larger list may be really handy there.
Step 4: Adhere a hook in your space
Decide on the placement of your clipboard and use a removable hook to adhere it to the space.
Add a few removable adhesive squares to the back of the clipboard on the bottom. That will hold the clipboard in place and not allow it to swing around each time the door is opened and closed.
Voila! Problem solved!
Now my kids and husband can add things to the list and we shouldn’t have the dreaded running out of important products problem.
A full view of our linen closet….including the new floors I put down a month or so ago. 🙂 Now I just need to get to all the other projects to finish the flooring…do you see how short the molding around my doors is now. There used to be shag carpet there and they had cut them quite short, so now I have to figure out how to fix them. ::sigh::
At any rate, now we have organization and cuteness in our linen closet. You can as well with both this fun craft and cute printable.
You can get everything you need for this project on your next Target run! Here is another way to save money on that Target run. Fun!
Oh and for more Krazy Glue inspiration, check out all these awesome ideas!
Once I get the flooring issues fixed, I plan to paint and really make this linen closet pretty. Can’t wait to show you that project!
