So do you guys remember last week when I share the 4th of July pretzels with you? I was inspired to make those after seeing similar pretzels while walking through Crate & Barrel. I also saw the cutest idea for a patriotic oatmeal cookie recipe in a mason jar! I love mason jars! and who doesn't love a good oatmeal cookie? I thought it would be a fun idea for our 4th of July and of course, I totally wanted to share it with you.
I love the look of the mason jars all filled and ready to be given to friends. Don't you think this would be a perfect gift to take a hostess at a 4th of July party? Me, too!
To make the jars, you need quart sized mason jars.
Layer the ingredients in the jar. You will need to press down each layer as you add it.
When adding the red, white, and blue sprinkles, layer them in making sure to spoon them by the edge of the jar. That way you will really be able to see them and they will stand out.
For me, finding the sprinkles was the hardest part of making these jars. I really wanted to find them locally. I would recommend if you don't find them in the first store, order them from Amazon(affiliate link). I wish I had. I was almost going to save myself the hassle and order them, but it just seemed like a dumb thing to order. 4 stores later and spending thirty minutes picking out the wrong color sprinkles, I was really regretting my choice!
Add a cute tag with some baker's twine. That way the recipient will know how to make the cookies. I made the tags pictured here and I have them for you at the bottom of this post.
For a final touch, I added some cute sparkly stars to the jars.
After all of that terribly hard prep work of putting the jars together. Maybe I should say, after spending 30 minutes picking out the wrong color sprinkles, I had to give the oatmeal cookie recipe a try. I thought I deserved at least that much. 😉
I use white whole wheat flour. Often for baking, you need to add additional liquid with this type of flour. I had to add some additional milk. The recipe doesn't call for any milk, but because of the type of flour I use, I had to add something to bring the dough together.
The cookies are super delish! I didn't use to like white chocolate, but for some reason, it has tasted good lately.
I love the little red, white, and blue sprinkles in the cookies. So Cute!
Do you have plans for the 4th yet? I bet these cookies would make a great addition to your plans. 🙂
