I’ve got the cutest little craft for you today. It literally took me 10-15 minutes to complete and it looks so cute and yummy sitting on my kitchen counter. You can make this simple basket for your Halloween treats as well.
Is it just me, or has this year totally flown by in a blur? I feel like it was just January and now it is already fall. So, it is time for me to get in the fall mood. Have you gotten there yet?
I’m telling you, the older my kids get the busier I get. I’ve heard this is normal and that it is like a crescendo from now until my oldest daughter gets her driver’s license, but the fact that she is in High School(how it that possible!!??) now has me driving all over the place and between both my girls schedules my craft time is dwindling to next to nothing.
So, while I still love having a creative outlet, I’m finding that I need to find quick and simple things to do to add those fun touches to my house and have some creative fun. Still works for me! 🙂
I was wandering Target the other day in between activities and decided to look for something fun to add to my house for Halloween and Fall. I found the perfect thing in the One Spot. I found this cute little basket along with some embellishments and knew it would be great to hold some fun Halloween candy treats.
Then I wandered back to the Halloween section and found some fun special Halloween candies. I selected the Dove Milk Chocolate Ghosts, the M&M’S Boo-tterscotch White Chocolate, and then found the Starburst Halloween mix. Yum! The Dove and M&M’s are found exclusively at Target.
The best part is that all the candy came up on sale using the Cartwheel app. I absolutely love when I scan something with the app and it does that lovely little sound to tell you there is a matching deal. Yay! Happy Day!
To make the cute basket, I started with a wooden tag. I found this adorable pumpkin as well and wanted the tag to mimic the pumpkin.
Paint the tag mostly black and use a little bit of decoupage medium at the top so that you can adhere glitter to both sections.
While the paint and decoupage medium are wet, sprinkle with white or crystal colored glitter.ecause the paint is wet, you will get some in other spots on your tag as well. Fine with me, but if it bothers you and you are more patient than I am, you could wait for the black paint to dry and then go over the areas where you want the glitter with the decoupage medium.
Because the paint is wet, you will get some glitter in other spots on your tag as well. Fine with me, but if it bothers you and you are more patient than I am, you could wait for the black paint to dry and then go over the areas where you want the glitter with the decoupage medium.
I found some pretty glitter ribbon in the one spot as well, so to add that to the basket, just add a ring of decoupage medium around the middle ridge of the basket.
While the decoupage medium is wet, add the ribbon to the basket. It works really well to use the beginning and end point of the ridge for the beginning and end of the ribbon as well.
I also found this cute pumpkin glitter tape in the one spot and knew it would be a cute addition to my basket. Again using the overlapping point of the wood on the top ridge of the basket worked really well for teh beginning and end of this tape.
Such cuteness between the basket and the pumpkin. I think they are kind of classy looking, too.
Once the wooden tag was dry, I tied it to the handle of the basket and used a paint pen to add some wording.
The super fun part was to fill the basket up with some yummy Halloween treats. We like to have one or maybe two of these after lunch. The fact that they are special Halloween flavors, makes it even more of a treat. When the candy is gone, these yarn wrapped apples and pumpkins that I made years ago will look really cute as well.
I’m telling you, this was quick, easy, and inexpensive. I love the cuteness it adds to my kitchen counter. Fall/Halloween perfection that fit in between Gymnastics, Key club, Back to School night, and Homeschooling…phew! 🙂
Don’t forget to use Cartwheel to get all the yummy candy because they were all on sale with the app. Love that!
