Valentine's Day decorations are so much fun! They are all love, white, pink, and red. So much fun! I decided to make a new table runner for our table this year. I've got a tutorial for you if you want to make your own felt and burlap table runner.
I don't know what it is with me and table runners for Valentine's Day! I made this reversible table runner last year and this year I decided to make another. The funny thing is that I don't really even like table runners that much….yet I seem to make them each Valentine's day. Hmmm, might have to give that some thought.
In the mean time, let me show you how to make this simple and quick table runner.
- Roll of Burlap
- Felt (White, Pink and Red)
- Heart Templates
- Peltex 72F
- Sewing Machine
- Thread (In the same colors as the felt)
Start by creating heart templates. I used my Cricut to cut out hearts in various sizes.
Trace the hearts onto your felt and cut out. Trace a smaller sized heart onto the Peltex 72F and cut out.
Cut the Peltex heart in half and place in in the center of your felt heart. Cutting the heart in half will make sewing the heart to the burlap easier and allow the heart to fold in half. It will give the hearts the 3 dimensional look. Place a matching felt heart on top and follow the Peltex directions to fuse. Trim excess felt. It should be cut close to the Peltex without the Peltex showing.
Cut a length of burlap that fits your table and extends off the end as far as you would like it to extend.
Pin your hearts in place where you would like them to go on the table runner. This is probably best done with the burlap on the table, so you can see where the hearts will lay on the table.
In hind sight, I would have liked my hearts to be smaller than they are. I would have added a few more and had smaller hearts. I didn't feel like re-doing everything and it works as it is.
Sew through the center of your heart. Make sure to back stitch at the start and finish. With your Peltex cut in half, it shouldn't be a problem of thickness to sew the hearts onto the burlap.
Fluff your hearts. Done! You now have an adorable felt and burlap table runner with 3D hearts!
I think the hearts almost look like butterflies.
We also like how they add some fun and dimension to the table.
The combination of the burlap and the 3D hearts is just fun and whimsical. A great Valentine decoration for our table.
Do you do any decorations on your table? Do tell…let's get some more ideas rolling!
