I know Halloween is this week, but I couldn’t resist giving you one more idea to add to your Halloween recipes.
As I’ve told you, we love to play with our food at Halloween. There are just so many fun, spooky, and cute ideas. It makes dinner so much more fun! Last week I showed you one of our Halloween recipes for eyeballs.
We also love to eat bones with our dinners this time of year. They are the perfect accompaniment to so many meals AND so yummy! They are also crazy easy to make. Perfect! Let me show you how to make your own bones for dinner.
I buy 1 pound of pizza dough from Trader Joe’s for our bones. You can make your own dough or buy it, but you will want about 1 lb.
Roll your dough out so that it is at least 12 inches long. I usually do mine more like 18 inches. It just depends on how thick or thin you want your bones to be. Are they thick bones with lots of calcium or thin bones with osteoporosis. OK sorry for the cheesy joke, I just couldn’t resist! 😉 I’m cheesy like that!
After you roll out your dough, tie a knot in both ends. Brush the tops with one egg that has been beaten. Sprinkle with your favorite cheese (preferable a white cheese so it blends in with the bones). This time I used a blend of shaved Parmesan, Asiago and Romano cheeses. It was so yummy! We often just use shredded Parmesan.
Bake in a 450 degree oven for about 10-12 minutes or until cooked to light golden brown and the cheese is melted. It is best to line your pan with a silicone baking mat so that the breadsticks don’t get overdone on the bottom. It will also help things cook more evenly.
