I'm back with another post of Daisy Petals ideas. As you may know, I am a leader to my youngest daughters Daisy troop. I have really enjoyed being a Daisy leader and coming up with fun ideas for the girls.

On the great advice of our head leader (we are in a large multi-level troop), I don't do much of the reading that is in Daisy book for each petal. I find that it just makes it too school like and since we meet in the evening, I find that the girls need something to keep them active and engaged. Not a story time to put them to sleep. Instead, I tend to talk with them about whatever petal we are working on, get their ideas of what it means and go from there. I always have some kind of craft or activity related to the petal or journey on which we are working. The Daisy spring green petal represents the considerate and caring aspect of the Girl Scout Law. We talked about what it means to be considerate and caring. We also acted out a couple of situations that were considerate and caring and that were not considerate and caring.

Following our discussion and acting things out, we sat down at our table and made cards to say thank you to the military. We discussed all they do to keep our country safe before hand so they would know why we were saying thank you.
One of the fantastic moms in our troop, pre-stamped all the cards for us and donated all the supplies for us to make these cards. I have the best troop!

While making the cards, we were able to practice being considerate and caring to one another by not grabbing things another Daisy was using and using our manners to ask for things we needed. It also went perfectly with practicing being friendly and helpful, which we had already earned, but continuing to bring it up and work on it week after week brings it home for the girls.

In the end we had some darling cards made for the military by our Daisy's. They were very proud of what they made. Some wrote notes (which I couldn't show you because they used their names), some just made doodles and other used only the stickers in their cards.

We also practiced being honest and fair by making sure that each girl got to have one of these cute flower clips and each one got to make one card. (This kit would work perfectly for the flower clips.) We had a very successful and fun meeting for the girls and I.

Do you have other ideas for earning the Spring Green petal? I would love to hear them. I'm in my second year as a Daisy leader and always want/need new ideas. I also know there are other leaders who will read this and can get more ideas from the comments. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Gretchen! I’m part of a large multi-level troop. Our main leader has a spouse that is in the reserves and another person works for the military. They took them and sent them somehow. Sadly, I’m not sure exactly how or where. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
